It was a time for revolution and a rebellion in the 1960s and manufacturers made a bold attempt to make big bucks by muscle cars. It is clear with designs that made the care more likable. In the 1960's cars had to have a lot of attractions to appeal to its customers. Companies like Pontiac, Oldsmobile Ford, made an attempt to make their cars more desirable and they promoted the muscle to appeal to the customers. This gave a very big boost to these companies and their sales went soaring high, more than they had expected. This factor made 1960's the golden age of muscle cars and pony cars.

These features and options are modern facilities that we take for granted. This we know as modern car luxuries. Power windows, power seats, air conditioning were some of its best options back in the 1960's. There were also the option of bigger engines, power steering, auto transmission, and power brakes. These were some of the added advantages of the cars of 1960s era.

Pony cars first came in the 1960s decade. It was first produced by Ford mustang. Mustangs were produced to compete with other muscle cars in the year 1964-65, much before, they decided to reserve it to its own specific class. Then Chevrolet came in the market and competed with mustang and introduced Camaro, this car was a belated entry to the market.

Each manufacturer tried their level best in their ranks to appeal to customers who wanted a pony or a muscle car, or both. Ford had Torino as its muscle car and Mustang as its pony car variable. Chevrolet had Camaro as its pony car and Chevelle as its muscle car. Dodge had Charger and Challenger as its muscle and pony car variables. Manufacturers did this to draw more attention and gave people more choices of buying their mode of transport. More cars were sold and more people got addicted to the looks and features of these cars.

There was another type of muscle cars and were produced by Plymouth. They manufactured the car Road Runner. These muscle cars were made and sold at cheap prices compared to other muscle cars. These cars created a category called "budget muscle" these cars appealed to customers who wanted a muscle car, but who didn't wish to break their bank when they were buying one.

These muscle and pony cars that were built back in the 1960s were an addiction to all people. People who had them showed off their rides, and people who didn't have the cars made every possible effort to get one. Marketing was mostly done by many movies which featured these muscle and pony cars. Manufacturers like Ford and Chevy put these cars into races where each could show heir might and many designs were changed to make it look more like a racecar and so customers were very happy to get an even more revved up cars. Even today, when it comes to muscle and pony cars, people always first go for the option of Mustang and Charger.
