Pony Cars - Era Cars!

They say that cars of a particular era will definitely reflect the taste of the people of that era and that was exactly what happened with the cars during the 1960s. It was the era when everyone wanted to rebel and this was evident in the designs of the cars at that time. It had included in the designs many attractions that were necessary at that time to attract the consumers. Companies like the Oldsmobile, Ford, and the Pontiac were the pioneers in changing the looks of the cars from being muscle cars to those, which appealed to the customers. This made a lot of difference and the result was that they ended up selling a lot more than what they expected.

That is why this age is termed the golden age of pony as well as the muscle cars. The features that we have in some of the cars today are a result of change in the 1960s. Some of the changes were the power brakes and steering, power seats and windows, engines that were bigger in size and automatic transmissions. These features are available in cars even today. Ford Mustang was the first Pony car to be launched in the year 1960. Even with an entry that was a bit late, the Camaro from the Chevrolet was a competition to the Mustang from Chevrolet.

There was a struggle among the car manufacturers in order to bring out a car that appealed to the customers who were looking for cars that gave him the best of both the worlds. Most of the companies had one version of both the types of cars. For its muscle bracket the Chevrolet had the Chevelle, Ford had the Torino and Dodge had the Charger. For the pony car bracket the Ford had Mustang, Dodge had the Challenger and Chevrolet had the Camaro. There was also another muscle car that was introduced in the market from Plymouth and the name of the car was Road Runner.

The beauty of this car was that though it was a muscle car, it was very cheap compared to the other cars in the type. From then on, another category emerged and that was that of "Budget Muscle." This was the answer to the customers who wanted to buy a muscle car but could not afford one. Now the cars that once were kings of the roads are being restored and the people who still own the cars are revisiting the period that was once termed as the "Golden Age of Muscle cars."

The rich and the famous now covet these cars. However, the good news is that the ability to shop online for them, new and used, enables just about anyone to add to the collection back home. The connoisseur will agree that these timeless and classic beauties are part of a vintage collection and yet a cut above. Pony cars are as traditional in appeal as they are trendy and very, very chic!
