Pony Cars: The New Breed
When Ford introduced the 1065 mustang, they created a new car but they also started a new craze for cars - a new generation of pony cars. Before the introduction of the great icons, the Big Three idea of a commanding factory car was cars that would look like a large metal boat with fins and stuffed with a large and heavy engine.
Ford Mustang changed all of this. The vice president of Ford lee Iacocca had a vision of future sports car that seated for people and which will boast bucket seats, a floor mounted shifter and would weigh less than 2,500lbs.
Very nicely styled and priced at only $2,368. These cars were an instant hit. The fact shows that on the very first day of its launch, nearly 2200 of these little pony cars flew out of showrooms. The buying public saw all of this, sat up, and took notice of getting these cars. So did many other car manufacturing companies, which in no time got into the competition of "pony cars".

By boosting performance, it didn't take much long for other manufactures to out sell its competitors. This created the famous and historic war of the muscle and pony cars.
The 60's and the 70's were days of muscle cars. Gas was cheap and money was spent of gas. But as the Arab oil came into play all hell broke loose. There was gas rationing and so people were burning holes in their pocket. All of a sudden gas prices amplified shockingly. And that was if you could find a gas station!!!!
Gas was hard to find and there were new norms for emission and pollution control. Therefore, the factory made very quick advancements in its line-ups to make them for eco friendly. When gas was sufficient these new cars were introduced with newer and better non polluting engines and they performed respectfully. Interest never dimmed, but what was there in a muscle car that was made in the 70's?
Chrysler is to be credited for dusting off some of those visions of yesteryear, with its cars like Prowler and other show car turned to production machines. The muscle car war started with its introduction of a beautiful retro-styled coupe with 300 horsepower, it was call the new Ford Mustang 2005, and new dreams were being made.
The first Mustang to roll out had the specs of a respectable 210 horsepower, a V8 engine and weighed at only 2,500 pounds. This meant a lot of "rev it up and go." Today, however, now a day, 300 horsepowered cars are made of V6 engine. In addition, muscle cars are powered by V8 with horsepower boost of 400 to 500. These cars come out straight in line and made with specification given by customers. They are a lot fuel efficient, much easier, and less harsh on the environment. So getting into a car like this will set you to history and feel the power that comes to you when you step up on gas.
